How to find the right tool fast

Two hundred and thirty tools is a lot to scroll. Three ways to cut it down:

• Know the name? Type it in the filter box above — it matches as you type, so “compress” narrows to every compressor on the site in one keystroke run.
• Know the file type? Jump to the category band: PDF, image, video and audio, or document templates.
• Know only the outcome? The category pages explain what each tool is for in plain language — start at PDF Tools or Image Tools and read down.

If a tool you need genuinely does not exist here, tell us. A good number of the tools on this page started as one email from someone who could not find what they wanted anywhere else.

What “runs in your browser” actually means

Most tools on this site never send your file anywhere. When you drop a PDF onto the compressor or a photo onto the resizer, the file is read straight from your disk by the browser using the File API — a standard part of every modern browser — and processed on your own machine. Nothing is uploaded, so there is nothing on a server to leak, subpoena or forget to delete.

The heavier media tools go further and run a full media encoder compiled to WebAssembly, so converting an MP4 or trimming an audio file happens locally too. That is why a video conversion uses your device’s processor and can take a minute or two on a phone, while a PDF page-count takes an instant.

A minority of tools do need a server — some PDF conversions require rendering engines too large to ship to a browser. Those pages say so on the page itself, files travel over HTTPS, and they are deleted automatically after processing. We would rather tell you which is which than claim everything is local.

Every tool here is free with no sign-up, no trial, no daily cap and no watermark stamped on your output. There is no premium tier holding back the useful settings. The site is funded by advertising, which is the whole reason the tools can stay free — you can read exactly how that works in our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy.

Everything is free for commercial use too. Freelancers billing clients, shops issuing GST invoices and teams preparing documents are all welcome to use these tools as part of paid work, with no licence to buy and nothing to attribute.

Built for the jobs people actually bring here

The most-used tools on the site cluster around a few very specific tasks, and they are worth calling out because they are the ones people struggle to find elsewhere:

• Getting a file under a size limit. Exam portals, visa forms and job applications reject anything over a fixed KB figure. The PDF Compressor and Image Compressor exist for exactly that, and the guides on compressing a PDF to 100KB and an image to 20KB walk through it.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find a tool if I do not know what it is called?

Use the filter box at the top of the directory and type what you want to do rather than a tool name — “compress”, “resize”, “convert”, “split”. The filter matches any part of a tool’s name, so a partial word usually finds it. If nothing matches, browse the category bands instead: they group tools by the kind of file you are working with.

Which tools upload my file, and which keep it on my device?

Image, video, audio, text, calculator, generator and template tools all run entirely in your browser — nothing is uploaded. Most PDF tools do too, but a few conversions that need heavy rendering engines run on our server. Any tool that uploads says so in its own description, near the top of its page. If a page does not say it uploads, it does not.

Is there a limit on file size?

Most of our PDF tools now run entirely in your browser, and those have no size limit we impose — the ceiling is your device’s available memory. A smaller number convert on a server, and those accept files up to 10 MB, with two exceptions: Protect PDF and Unlock PDF accept up to 100 MB, so a full scanned bundle can be secured or opened in one piece. Every tool page states which kind it is.

Do these tools work offline?

Partly, and it depends on the tool. Anything that runs in your browser loads its code when the page opens, so calculators, converters and text tools keep working if your connection drops afterwards. Tools that fetch live data — the currency converter, for instance — and the few that use a server both need a connection.

Why does a video conversion take so much longer than a PDF one?

Because it is doing far more work, on your device rather than ours. Video tools run a complete media encoder compiled to WebAssembly, which decodes and re-encodes every frame using your processor. A two-minute clip can mean tens of thousands of frames. A PDF operation, by contrast, usually rewrites a file’s structure without touching the page content at all. Leave the tab open and in the foreground while it works — browsers throttle background tabs.

Can I use these tools for commercial or client work?

Yes, without restriction and without attribution. Invoices, quotations, resumes, certificates, compressed images and converted documents produced here can all be used in paid work. There is no licence to buy and no commercial tier.

How often are new tools added, and can I request one?

New tools go up regularly, and requests genuinely do get built — several of the categories here exist because enough people asked. Send the request to our contact page and describe the task rather than the tool; knowing what you are trying to achieve usually produces something more useful than the tool you had in mind.

Why does a tool behave differently on my phone than on my laptop?

Almost always memory. Browser-based tools are limited by what your device can hold at once, and mobile browsers cap that far lower than desktops — often aggressively, to protect battery and other tabs. Layout is identical across devices; capacity is not. Large videos and very large PDFs are the two cases where a computer will succeed and a phone may not.

Are the calculators accurate enough to rely on?

The arithmetic is exact and the formulas come from primary sources — government schedules, standards bodies and clinical guidelines — which are linked on the pages that use them. For a tax filing, a loan or anything medical, confirm the result with a qualified professional before acting on it.
