Number Systems

Decimal System (Base-10)
The standard number system using digits 0-9. This calculator operates in the decimal system, which is used in everyday mathematics and commerce.
Binary System (Base-2)
Uses only two digits: 0 and 1. Fundamental to computer operations and digital electronics.
Hexadecimal System (Base-16)
Uses digits 0-9 and letters A-F. Widely used in programming, web design (color codes), and digital systems.

About the Online Calculator

This is a fast, no-frills calculator for everyday arithmetic — the digital equivalent of the desk calculator on a shop counter. It adds, subtracts, multiplies and divides, handles percentages and decimals, includes a working memory, and responds to your keyboard, all in your browser with nothing to install.

How it evaluates entries

Like a classic desk calculator, this tool works in chaining mode: it processes each operation as you enter it, left to right, rather than applying mathematical precedence. So 2 + 3 × 4 is read as (2 + 3) × 4 = 20, not 14. That behaviour is exactly what you want for quick sequential sums — a price plus a price times a quantity — but if you need parentheses and “multiplication before addition” precedence, the Scientific Calculator is the right tool.

Corrections, memory and percentages

Two clear keys keep mistakes painless: CE clears only the current entry while preserving your running total, and C resets everything. The memory keys — M+ to add, M− to subtract, MR to recall, MC to clear — let you stash a subtotal while you compute something else, then bring it back. The percent key applies the current number as a percentage of the running value, so 200 + 10% adds 20 to give 220, matching how high-street calculators behave.

Keyboard and everyday use

For anything more than a couple of taps, the keyboard is faster: the number row, the operator keys, Enter for equals and Backspace for corrections all work. This calculator is built for speed and simplicity — splitting a bill, totting up a shopping list, checking change. For statistics use the Mean, Median and Mode Calculator, and for scientific functions the Scientific Calculator. Everything is computed privately in your browser.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this calculator follow the order of operations?

No — like a traditional desk calculator it evaluates entries left to right as you press them, so 2 + 3 × 4 gives 20, not 14. For full mathematical precedence (parentheses and exponents first), use the Scientific Calculator instead.

How do I correct a mistake?

Use CE (Clear Entry) to clear just the current number without losing the running total, and C (Clear) to reset everything. Backspace removes the last digit you typed.

How do the memory keys work?

M+ adds the shown number to memory, M− subtracts it, MR recalls the stored value, and MC clears memory. They are handy for keeping a subtotal aside while you work out another figure.

Can I use my keyboard instead of clicking?

Yes — number keys, the operator keys (+ − * /), Enter for equals and Backspace for corrections all work, which is much faster than clicking for longer sums.

What does the percent (%) key do?

It converts the current entry into a percentage of the running value — for example 200 + 10% adds 10% of 200 (that is, 20) to give 220, the way a standard calculator handles percentages.

How are decimals handled?

You can enter decimal points freely; results display with standard rounding. For very long results some trailing digits may be rounded for the display.

Is anything I type sent anywhere?

No. The calculator runs entirely in your browser, so your numbers never leave your device.
