How to use the age calculator
Step 1 — Enter the date of birth
One date box, using your device’s own date picker, so there is no day/month confusion and no year limit. The answer appears the moment the date is complete.
Step 2 — Choose the date to measure to
It starts at today, which is what most people want. Change it to any other day — an exam cut-off, a joining date, a policy renewal, a date in the past — and you get the age as it was, or will be, on that day.
Step 3 — Add a time of birth if you have one
Optional. With it, the report adds the exact hours and minutes lived. Without it, every figure is counted in whole days, which is the honest way to do it — nobody’s age should shift because a clock changed.
Step 4 — Read the headline
Years, months and days, then the same span as total months, weeks and days. Underneath, the next birthday with the exact date, the day of the week, and how many days away it is.
Step 5 — Look at the detail
Day of the week born, star sign, Chinese zodiac year, age in hours and minutes, how many leap days have passed, and when the next round-number day — the 10,000th, say — falls.

About the age calculator
This tool gives an exact age — not just the year, but the precise years, months and days between a date of birth and any other date you choose. It also expresses the same span as total months, weeks, days, hours and minutes, and counts down to the next birthday. It is free, needs no account, and everything is worked out in your browser.
How the calculation actually works
Age is counted the way people say it, not by dividing days by 365.25. The method is two steps:
- Count the whole months between the two dates, then check whether that many months after the birth date has actually been reached. If it has not, step back one month.
- Measure the leftover days from that anniversary date to the end date.
The step that matters is adding months to a date, because months are not the same length. One month after 31 January is 28 February (or the 29th in a leap year), not 3 March. Handling that properly is what stops the answer going wrong at month ends: 31 January to 1 March is one month and one day, and no arrangement of the dates can produce a negative number of days.
Because the whole calculation works on calendar dates, leap years are handled by the calendar itself rather than by an adjustment, and a daylight-saving change cannot move a day count by an hour.
Turning 18, or any other threshold
The most common serious use of an age calculator is checking whether someone had reached a required age on a particular date. Set the second box to the cut-off and read the years figure — the day before an eighteenth birthday shows 17 years, 11 months and 30 days, and the birthday itself shows 18 years, 0 months and 0 days. There is no ambiguity and no rounding.
Birthdays on 29 February
A leap-day birthday only exists once every four years, so a calculator has to choose a convention for the other three, and it should tell you which one. This one counts the birthday on 28 February in a common year, which is the usual legal reading in the UK and much of the Commonwealth. Some places — parts of the United States, and New Zealand — treat it as 1 March instead, and plenty of people simply celebrate on whichever they prefer.
What matters is that the convention is stated on screen and used consistently: with 28 February as the anniversary, someone born on 29 February 2024 is exactly one year old on 28 February 2025, and the next-birthday line names 28 February rather than silently sliding to March.

Dates of birth are personal data. Nothing you type here is uploaded, logged or stored — the calculation happens in the page, and closing the tab is the end of it. That also means the tool keeps working if your connection drops.

How do I calculate my exact age?

Can I find my age on a date other than today?
Yes — that is what the second date box is for. Set it to any day, past or future, and you get the age as it was or will be then. Useful for eligibility cut-offs, school admission dates and insurance forms.
How is age counted when the months are different lengths?
By whole calendar months, then leftover days. One month after 31 January is 28 February, so 31 January to 1 March is one month and one day. No month is treated as an average of 30 or 30.44 days.
What happens with a 29 February birthday?
In a common year the birthday is counted on 28 February, and the tool says so on screen. Some countries use 1 March instead; if that is your convention, add a day to the figure shown.
Does it handle leap years?
Yes, automatically, because everything is measured on the real calendar. The detail list also tells you how many leap days you have lived through.
How many days old am I?

Why does it not show seconds?
Because without a time of birth, seconds would be invented precision. Add a time and the exact hours and minutes appear; leave it blank and every figure stays in whole days, which is what a date of birth actually tells you.
Is my date of birth stored?
No. It never leaves your device — there is no upload, no cookie holding it and no record kept. Closing the tab discards everything.
Can I use it for someone else, or for a pet?
Yes, any two dates at all. The star sign and zodiac lines are simply calendar facts about the birth date.
What is my Chinese zodiac animal?
It is shown in the detail list, taken from the birth year. Note that the Chinese new year falls in late January or February, so anyone born in the first weeks of a year may belong to the previous animal — check the exact date of that year’s new year if it matters.
