The 12 tools that answer the questions students ask most — grade conversion, word counts, file size, photo dimensions, focus and applications.

  1. CGPA to Percentage Converter Convert CGPA to a percentage using your institution's own rule — CBSE's ×9.5, VTU's (CGPA−0.75)×10, a ×10 scale, or a multiplier you enter yourself.
  2. Final Grade Calculator Work out the mark you need in the final exam to reach the grade you are aiming for, given its weighting.
  3. Word Counter Word and character counts for essays, reports and application forms, so you can hold a limit before you paste into a portal.
  4. Text Diff Checker Compare two drafts side by side and see exactly what changed between them — handy after feedback or a group edit.
  5. PDF Compressor Bring an assignment PDF under a portal's upload limit, with a legibility floor so scanned pages stay readable.
  6. Image to Text Converter Read text out of a photo of a whiteboard, a screenshot or a scanned handout using in-browser OCR. Accuracy depends on how clear the source is — always check the output against the original.
  7. Speech to Text Dictate notes instead of typing them. It uses your browser's own speech recognition, so availability and language support depend on the browser you are in.
  8. JSON Formatter and Validator Indent a wall of JSON into something readable and get told where it breaks — the first thing to reach for when an API response will not parse.
  9. Image Resizer Online Resize to the exact pixel dimensions a form specifies for a photo or a signature.
  10. Unit Converter Length, mass, temperature, area, volume and more — the conversions lab reports and problem sets keep needing.
  11. Pomodoro Timer Break study into focused stretches with short breaks between them, and a longer break after several rounds.
  12. Resume Generator Fill in a form, pick a template, watch it lay out live and download a PDF resume for internship and placement applications.

Academic & Grade Calculators

Work out marks, percentages, GPA and CGPA without hunting for the formula first — each calculator shows the method it used, so you can check it against what your institution actually applies.

How these tools fit into a term

Most of the friction in coursework is not the thinking — it is the twenty minutes lost to a file that will not upload, a photo three kilobytes over the limit, or a formula you cannot remember at 11pm. This is where each group of tools tends to earn its place.

While you are working on an assignment

Get the raw material into a form you can use: read text off a photographed handout with image to text, pull the text layer out of a lecture PDF with PDF to text, or dictate a first pass with speech to text. Keep an eye on length as you write with the online word counter, and if a limit is stated in pages rather than words, words to minutes is the equivalent for anything you have to read aloud.

On submission day

Portals reject files for boring reasons. Put the parts together with merge PDF files, fix a scan that came out sideways or out of order using rotate PDF and organise PDF pages, then bring the total under the limit with the free PDF compressor. Open the compressed file before you upload it — a PDF that meets the size rule but cannot be read is worse than one that was rejected.

Privacy depends on the tool. Many AMTake tools process files directly in your browser — the compressor, the image tools, the OCR and every calculator on this page work that way, and the file never leaves your device. A small number of features do need server-side processing. Each tool page states which applies to it, so check the individual tool before using it with anything sensitive: unpublished research, personal identification, or a document that is not yours to share.

Nothing here asks you to create an account, and none of these tools keep a copy of your work for later. Where a tool relies on an outside service, that is named on its own page rather than described vaguely.

FAQ

Student tools: common questions

What these tools do, what they cost, and what happens to your files.

What is the Student Tools hub?

It is a curated view of tools that already exist on AMTake, grouped by the job a student is trying to do — calculating grades, writing and checking assignments, preparing PDFs and images, coding coursework, staying on schedule and applying for internships. Every card links to that tool's normal page; nothing here is a separate copy of a tool.

Are these student tools free?

Yes. Every tool linked from this page is free to use, with no trial period and no paywalled result. The site is funded by advertising.

Do I need an account to use them?

No. There is no sign-up, no login and no email step before you get a result. You can subscribe to updates if you want to, but nothing on this page requires it.

Can I use these tools for university assignments?

Yes — they are ordinary utilities for formatting, converting, calculating and checking your own work, in the same way a calculator or a word processor is. What you may submit is set by your institution's academic integrity rules, so check those before relying on any tool for assessed work.

Which tool converts CGPA to a percentage?

The CGPA to Percentage Converter. There is no single national formula: it supports the CBSE-style CGPA × 9.5, VTU's (CGPA − 0.75) × 10, a straight CGPA × 10, and a custom multiplier. Use whichever rule your own university publishes — the tool shows which one it applied.

Can I compress a PDF before submitting an assignment?

Yes. The PDF Compressor reduces file size in your browser and holds a minimum resolution so scanned pages stay legible rather than being crushed to hit a target. If your portal states a limit, compress to comfortably under it and open the result before you upload.

Can I get text out of scanned notes or images?

Yes, using optical character recognition. Image to Text reads text from a photo or screenshot, and PDF to Text extracts the text layer of a digital PDF. OCR is an estimate, not a transcript — clean, straight, well-lit source material reads far better than a dim photo at an angle, and you should always check the output against the original.

Does AMTake have tools for computer science students?

Yes. The coding section collects the developer utilities that come up in a CS or IT course — a JSON formatter and validator, a number base converter, Base64 encoding, a regex tester, URL encoding, a Markdown previewer and a hash generator. They live in the Text & Developer Tools category; this page just groups the ones coursework actually calls for.

Can students create a resume and cover letter here?

Yes. The Resume Generator and Cover Letter Generator take your details through a form, lay them out in a template, preview the result live and export a PDF you can attach to an internship or placement application.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

It depends on the tool, and each tool page says which applies to it. Many AMTake tools — including the PDF compressor, the image tools, the OCR and the calculators — do the work entirely in your browser, so the file never leaves your device. A few features do need server-side processing. Check the individual tool page before using any tool with sensitive or personal material.
