Open your PDF
Drag a PDF onto the upload area or click to browse. The first page opens with a thumbnail strip beneath it and the toolbar directly above. Nothing is uploaded — your browser reads the file, so there is no queue and no size cap beyond your device’s memory.
Replace text already in the document
Choose Replace text. Every line that can be edited is outlined with a dashed blue box. Click one and it opens with the original wording already filled in — edit it and press Enter, or Escape to cancel. Your replacement lands on the original’s exact position and size.
Remove or swap a picture
Choose Edit picture. Every image on the page is outlined in green. Click one, then Remove it to cover it, or Replace with… to choose a new image — it is scaled to fit the original footprint so the layout holds.
Sign it
Draw with a mouse, trackpad or finger, or Type your name in one of three handwriting styles — Formal, Casual or Flowing — with a live preview. Set the width from 60 to 520 pt, place it, then drag it where it belongs.
Annotate
Add text anywhere in three fonts with size, colour, bold and italic. Highlight a band with adjustable opacity. Shape draws rectangles, ellipses and lines with stroke colour, thickness and optional fill. Draw is a freehand pen, and Add picture places a PNG or JPEG.
Watermark and number the pages
Watermark lays diagonal text across the page — set the words, colour, opacity, angle and size, on one page or all of them. Page numbers applies numbering automatically in three formats and six positions, starting from any number you choose.
Reorganise the pages
Drag the thumbnails to reorder them. Each has a rotate button and a delete button, and everything you have added travels with its page. Ctrl+Z and Ctrl+Y undo and redo every change, page moves included.
Save
Click Save PDF and a fresh document is written on your device. Choose Select beforehand to click any item you added and move it, resize it by its blue corner handle, restyle it, or remove it with the Delete key.
About the PDF Editor
This editor changes what is already inside a PDF — the text and the pictures — and adds signatures, annotations, watermarks and page numbers on top. Everything runs in this browser tab using your own device, so no copy of your document is uploaded, queued or stored anywhere else. Once the page has loaded, it keeps working offline.
What “editing” a PDF actually means
PDF is a fixed-layout format, not an editable one. It does not store paragraphs or text boxes. It stores instructions that draw individual glyphs at fixed coordinates, using fonts that are normally subsetted — cut down to only the characters that document happens to contain. There is no reflow and nothing to retype in the way a word processor works.
So every browser-based PDF editor, this one included, works the same way: it finds where the original content sits, covers it with a patch sampled from the surrounding background, and draws your replacement in the same position at the same size. On screen and in print the result is correct.
One consequence matters, and most tools stay quiet about it: covering content does not delete it. The original text can still be recovered by copy-and-paste or any text-extraction tool, and a replaced picture stays embedded in the file. For correcting a typo, a date, an amount or a logo this is exactly right. For removing confidential information it is not enough.

Flatten page converts the page to a flat image. That genuinely removes everything underneath, at the cost of that page’s selectable and searchable text. It is the only way to truly remove content from a PDF without dedicated desktop software, and it is what you should use before sharing a document from which something has to be gone rather than merely hidden.
Replacing text, and why the typeface may change
The editor reads the position, width and size of every text run on the page, so a replacement can be placed on the original to within a fraction of a point. What it cannot generally do is reuse the document’s own font, because a subsetted font contains only the glyphs that were already needed — ask it for a character the document never used and there is nothing to draw.
Replacements are therefore drawn in Helvetica, Times or Courier, whichever you choose. On ordinary body text the difference is rarely noticeable; against a distinctive display font it will show. There is also no reflow: text much longer than the original runs past the end of its line instead of pushing the rest of the paragraph along, so keep replacements close to the original length.
Signatures
Draw with a mouse, trackpad or finger, or type your name and pick a handwriting style. Each style is a stack of typefaces chosen to resolve on both Windows and macOS, so a signature does not silently collapse into plain sans on one platform.
This produces a visual signature — an image of your signature placed on the page. It is not a cryptographic digital signature, which binds a certificate to the document so any later change is detectable. For contracts requiring a certified signature, use a service that issues one. For the everyday case of signing and returning a form, a visual signature is what is being asked for.
What this tool cannot do
- It does not reflow text. Nothing repaginates. Replacement text longer than the original overruns its line rather than pushing the paragraph along.
- It has no OCR. A scanned page is a photograph with no text layer, so Replace text finds nothing on it. You can still annotate, sign, highlight and reorder those pages normally.
- It is not redaction. Covering hides; it does not remove. Use Flatten page when content must actually be gone.
- The patch is a sampled colour. It is invisible on plain white or coloured pages, but across a photograph or a gradient a seam can show.
- Pictures go in as PNG or JPEG. Those are the only image formats PDF can carry, so other formats must be converted first.
- It cannot open password-protected files. Remove the password first with the Unlock PDF tool.
Why nothing is uploaded
Rendering is done by pdf.js, Mozilla’s PDF engine, and the new file is written by pdf-lib. Both run as JavaScript inside this tab. That has three practical consequences: your document never crosses the network, so a confidential file stays confidential; there is no server-imposed size limit, only your device’s available memory; and the tool keeps working with the network disconnected.
The trade-off is that very large scanned documents — several hundred high-resolution pages — render more slowly on an older phone than they would on a server. Page thumbnails are generated as you go rather than all at once to keep that manageable.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I edit text that is already in my PDF?
Yes. Choose Replace text and click any outlined line — it opens pre-filled with the original wording. The editor covers the old text and draws yours in the same place at the same size. The original string does remain inside the file even though it is no longer visible; see “What editing a PDF actually means” above.
Is this safe for confidential documents?
Your file never leaves your browser, so nothing is transmitted to us or stored by us. But covering text does not erase it from the file you download. If you are removing sensitive information before sharing a document, use Flatten page, which rasterises the page and genuinely destroys what was underneath.
Why does my replacement text look slightly different?
PDFs normally embed a subsetted font containing only the characters that document already uses, so the original typeface usually cannot supply new ones. Replacements are drawn in Helvetica, Times or Courier. On body text the difference is rarely noticeable; on a distinctive display font it will show.
Can I remove a logo or a photo?
Yes. Edit picture outlines every image on the page. Click one and choose Remove to cover it, or Replace to drop in a new one scaled to the same footprint.
Can I sign a PDF here?
Yes — draw your signature with a mouse, trackpad or finger, or type your name and pick one of three handwriting styles, then set its size and position. This is a visual signature, not a certificate-backed digital signature, so it does not carry cryptographic proof that the document is unaltered.
Does it work on scanned PDFs?
Partly. You can annotate, sign, highlight, watermark and reorder pages as normal. But a scanned page is an image with no text layer, so Replace text will not find anything on it — this tool has no OCR.
Is there a file size limit?
None imposed by us, because nothing is uploaded. The practical ceiling is your device’s memory. Very large scanned documents of several hundred pages render more slowly on older phones.
Does it work on a phone or tablet?
Yes, including drawing a signature with your finger. The toolbar stays fixed above the page as you scroll.
Can I add page numbers to an existing PDF?
Yes. Choose Page numbers, pick a position and a format — plain numerals, “Page 1” or “1 of N” — set the starting number, and every page is numbered automatically.
Can I reorder, rotate or delete pages?
Yes. Drag the thumbnails to reorder them, and use the rotate and delete buttons on each one. Anything you have added moves with its page, and Ctrl+Z undoes it.
What if I make a mistake?
Everything you add stays editable. Choose Select, click an item to move it, drag its corner handle to resize, or press Delete to remove it. Ctrl+Z and Ctrl+Y undo and redo every change, including page reordering and deletion. Reset clears the document and starts again.
Will the file open in Adobe Acrobat?
Yes. The download is a standard PDF written with a standards-compliant library and opens anywhere PDFs open.
