About the Word Unscrambler

The Word Unscrambler finds every meaningful English word that can be built from the letters you enter, then groups the results in colour-coded bands by length so you can instantly spot the longest and highest-scoring plays. It is the go-to helper for Scrabble, Words With Friends, Wordle, crosswords and daily jumble puzzles.

Enter up to 20 letters and add a ? for any blank tile. Advanced filters let you match the exact clue you are working with — a five-letter word ending in -ER, say, or a word containing EA. Every result shows its Scrabble score, and a single click reveals a live definition so you can play with confidence.

It runs entirely in your browser using a 350,000-word dictionary, is fully mobile-friendly, and is free with no sign-up. Part of the AMTake Word Tools family, alongside the Anagram Solver, Jumble Solver, Word Generator and Word Combiner.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a word unscrambler?

A word unscrambler takes a jumble of letters and instantly finds every valid English word you can spell with them. It is a favourite helper for Scrabble, Words With Friends, Wordle, crosswords and jumble puzzles.

Can it help me win at Scrabble and Wordle?

Yes. For Scrabble and Words With Friends it lists every playable word with its point value, grouped by length. For Wordle, set the length to 5 and use the starts-with, ends-with and contains filters to match the clues you already have.

Does it support wildcards or blank tiles?

Yes. Type a ? in place of any unknown letter or blank tile — for example TRA?N — and the tool treats it as any letter, just like a blank Scrabble tile.

How is a word unscrambler different from an anagram solver?

A word unscrambler finds words of any length from your letters, including shorter ones. An anagram solver finds only words that use every single letter. For that, use our separate Anagram Solver.

Where do the word meanings come from?

Click any result and the tool fetches a live definition, pronunciation and example directly from an open dictionary API. Every result already comes from a curated English dictionary, so the words are real and playable even on the rare occasion a full definition is not available.
